Livestream Licensing

In order for artists, bands, labels, companies, and more to operate a “legitimate” livestream, they are required to pay for the works performed during the concert or livestream. As a result, performance rights and potentially synchronization rights need to be licensed.

Performance Rights – A blanket performance license needs to be obtained from the United States Performance Rights Organizations (PROs – ASCAP, BMI, GMRO, SESAC). Each PRO has reporting requirements for both revenue and music usage, and corresponding quarterly, semi-annual or annual fees.

Synchronization Rights – To provide on-demand streaming, you need to obtain a negotiated synchronization license directly from the music publishers for all tracks performed during the concert or livestream and pay the associated fees, which will most likely also require some form of regular reporting.
